THE PURPLE NIGHT – with Pierre Ardouvin
The European Night of Museums 2012
From 19 May to 20 May from 7pm to Midnight
The 2012 European Night of Museums in Tours was purple.
On this night the Centre of Contemporaine Creation, the ‘Jeu de Paume’ (Real Tennis Court) at the Château of Tours and the Fine Art Museum of Tours were bathed in colour. These institutions joined together with an artist to provide visitors with a coloured object, a distinctive accessory that all of them could sport when wandering around at night, providing a greater visibility for this event in the city.
The artist Pierre Ardouvin has imagined LA NUIT MAUVE by proposing to the citizens of Tours a transparent purple umbrella originating from his spectacular installation PURPLE RAIN created for the 2011 ‘Nuits Blanches’ in Paris.
At midnight, the night time visitors gathered under their purple umbrellas to photograph the work by Pierre Ardouvin brought back to life on a city-wide scale in Tours. On the night and afterwards, they have been able to exchange experiences and their photographs of the LA NUIT MAUVE via the CCC’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
