Seminar with Philippe Chiambaretta/PCA
« Architecture of the new façade, 19H04 »

15 December 2007

On Saturday 15 September 2007, in a one-off seminar as part of theEuropean heritage Days, Philippe Chiambaretta presented the new façade which he designed for the CCC of Tours. This will be followed by a book-signing Tours Architectures. Philippe Chiambaretta/PCA two projects (Monographik Publications).

Entitled « 19H04 » (7.04pm)the time it was first switched on, on March 16 2007, the façade of the CCC of Tours constitutes an experimental project, a response to the intended usage of the centre as a place devoted to contemporary research. Chiambaretta’s work is the antithesis of architecture which is ‘filled’ and he is unafraid to work with voids and to use movement.

Here architecture is treated interactively and with a sense of fun due to the dynamic quality of his lines and the way he plays with perspectives with adjustable lighting. The façade of the CCC can be seen, albeit on a different scale, as the starting point for the project of the Twin Towers of la Défense business district in Paris, studied by the PCA practice for the Groupe Foncière des Régions. The major stages of these two projects can be found in the publication named ‘Tours Architectures- Philippe Chiambaretta/PCA two projects’, which follows the evolution of the creative process.

This presentation is made part of the ‘Art and Architecture’ programme, a project run by the City of Tours in collaboration with the FRAC Centre and the Friends of the FRAC Centre.
