centre de création contemporaine olivier debré Jardin François 1er, Tours. Opening 2016 Architects : Agence Aires Mateus, Lisbonne.
The Aires Mateus agency was chosen in 2012 following an international competition to create the future Centre de Création Contemporaine Olivier Debré. This contemporary art center, unique in its kind, will continue the action of the CCC on a magnified level to spread the most current art while welcoming a new mission: to support itself with funds from a major abstract artist, Olivier Debré. Truly a place of artistic life, the CCCOD will replace the timeless work of the painter in an active dialogue with artists from today.
Located right in the heart of the historical city center and along the Loire River, this future art center will have a surface area of 4500m2 and four exposition spaces:
The nave will present the very large installations, permanently visible from the outside thanks to its large glass surfaces.
In the Gallery of abstracts, the work of Olivier Debré will be put in perspective with different forms of abstraction.
The black gallery will be dedicated to artists of our time, through experimental projects in line with the current programming of the CCC.
Finally, the small galleries will be essentially devoted to the presentation of graphic works.
All expositions will lead to personalized guidance from the public, adults and children alike, to enable them to follow the art of storytelling and to live the experience of creation.
A café and a bookshop will allow visitors to extend their visit.
The architectural project of Aires Mateus preserves the historical building of the nave and enhances the exceptional volume of the space. At the same time, subtly connected and clearly separated from the existing building, a new building accommodates the other three exhibition spaces, offering the contrast of a stone volume levitating on a transparent and luminous base.
